Study Days Winter ’25

On November 19th and 20th, the study days of the Elite Graduate Programme/Research Track took place at the University of Regensburg. After the arrival of the students and professors from Erlangen on the 19th, the event started with an engaging one-hour introduction by Prof. Dr. Sascha Schäfer to the rapidly evolving field of electron microscopy. In particular, he discussed state-of-the-art methods for achieving extremely high time resolution using pulsed beams, which is actively researched in his group.

Following this traditional opening talk, the series of student presentations on research projects and theses began. As expected, a wide range of topics was represented, spanning – among others – magnetic resonance spectroscopy, hybrid quantum circuits, quantum error correction, and non-Hermitian physics. During a coffee break and a joint dinner in the evening, students from both universities had the opportunity to reconnect and discuss the talks heard during the day.

The remaining presentations followed the next day, covering an equally diverse set of subjects including cosmic rays, neutrino detection at KM3NeT, magnetic quadrupole lenses, and even sea urchin skeletons. The event came to an end at lunchtime – an ideal moment to spend another pleasant hour in friendly company over a meal in the canteen before parting ways.

We look forward to welcoming our colleagues and friends from Regensburg again in about half a year, when it will be our turn again to host the study days.
